Tech Tip: Microsoft Adds Personal Vault to OneDrive

Jul 2, 2019 | Security, Tech Tips

This week’s Tech Tip is about a new, massive upgrade to your personal data security!

It’s no surprise to anyone reading this that we live in an age of increasingly complex online security threats. You’ve all heard me talking about this at length. You also probably know that I’m a big advocate of using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) as a means of protecting your accounts. We take data security very seriously here at Brightworks.

Microsoft announced this week that they are adding a “Personal Vault” to OneDrive. This Personal Vault feature will create a section of your OneDrive storage that is encrypted and requires MFA to access. If you aren’t using OneDrive or something like it I really recommend you do so; storing your personal files in cloud storage is the best means I know to avoid losing data from your personal devices. If you’re going to do that though, this new Personal Vault feature is a significant upgrade. By storing your files in the Personal Vault, you significantly decrease the likelihood that someone will be able to access your data, even if you lose a device or someone breaches your account. It’s a great new feature! The OneDrive Personal Vault brings added security to your most important files.
